WHO IS ALIS?
The Army Library and Information Service (ALIS) provides information, resources and materials to support military personnel.
You can access our online services (ALIS Online) via Defence Gateway or DII. The service is free for all army personnel throughout your career.
WHAT IS AVAILABLE ON ALIS ONLINE?
ALIS Catalogue:
The complete catalogue of all items held in Army Library and Information Centres worldwide. Over 250,000 titles.
Free request service:
Search the online catalogue and click request. Items are sent directly to you, wherever you are. Long loans available, no reservation fees or overdue charges.
Course support:
From GCSE to PhD; FS to CLM; covering a wide range of subjects - logistics, management, driving resources, NEBOSH and more.
Language courses:
Over 120 different languages, including Arabic, German, Italian and French.
News updates:
Weekly news updates covering 37 countries. Sign up for weekly emails containing opinions, information and insight on current affairs.
Country information:
Information, resources and twice daily RSS feeds are available on current issues and topics for each region or country.
E-resources:
Access to subscription resources such as Jane’s, Armed Conflict Database, Ebsco, Stratfor, news resources.
NB: E-resources are not available if you access ALIS Online via DII. Please use Defence Gateway via the internet.

HOW TO ACCESS ALIS ONLINE
Internet Access
ALIS Online is available on Defence Gateway.
Log into Defence Gateway, click manage applications then select the red ALIS Online icon. If you don’t have a Defence Gateway account, you can register online.
All ALIS content, including access to subscription only sites, is available.
Defence Intranet - DII
From any Defence Intranet page click on the References tab and select E-Library. The Army Library and Information Service can be found under Partner Libraries in the right-hand column.
For licensing reasons, commercial subscription sites, such as Jane’s, are not available through the E-Library but other ALIS content, including the full catalogue, is accessible.
