Robert Calvin Bland, known by his stage name Bobby "Blue" Bland, is an American blues singer. Bland has developed a sound that merges gospel with blues and R&B. He is described as "among the great storytellers of blues and soul music ... [who] created the arcs. Feelings of love, betrayal and resignation, against dramatic orchestras, and exhausted but still waiting listeners." He is sometimes called "The Lion of the Blues" and "Sinatra of the Blues". His music is also influenced by Nat King Cole. Bland was featured at the Blues Hall of Fame in 1981, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1992, and the Memphis Music Hall of Fame in 2012. He received the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 1997. Great The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame describes him as "second in stature behind BB King as a product of the Memphis Beale Street blues scene".
